Worried about not being able to requalify or free nights expiring? You can stop worrying. The World of Hyatt is extending status, free night awards, points, and more!

Here's a little good news to start your weekend.

Hyatt Extending Status, Free Night Awards, Points and More!

The World of Hyatt is extending status, free night awards, points, waiving change and cancellation fees, and giving free access to meditations for all members worldwide.

Earlier in the year, World of Hyatt members who lived in Asia had their elite status automatically extended.

Those of us, like me, who frequently stay at Hyatt hotels in Asia, also had our elite status extended if we contacted Hyatt.

Starting today Hyatt is extending status for all elite members. You don't have to worry about requalifying for elite status this year.

If you had Discoverist, Explorist or Globalist elite status on March 31, 2020, you get to keep that status through February 28, 2022.

The elite status extension is automatic. You do not have to call. Nor tweet at Hyatt or if you have one, email your My Hyatt Concierge (MHC).

Your new elite status expiration date will be updated by April 15, 2020.

Free Night Awards Extended

Not only is Hyatt extending elite status, but all free night awards are also extended. This also includes Suite Upgrades and Club Lounge Access awards, including those earned as milestone awards .

This is great news because you have more time to use those awards.

Any unused Free Night, Suite Upgrade or Club Lounge Access awards with expirations dates from March 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020, are extended to 2021.

Free night awards, suite upgrades, or club lounge access awards that expire between March 1 and March 31, 2020, are extended to April 20, 2021.

All other awards are extended to the 20th day of the month they would have originally expired. For example, if your free night is set to expire on June 5, 2020. The new expiration date is June 20, 2021.

The same is true for suite upgrades and club access awards. They'll get a new date of the 20th of whatever month they would have expired.

Pro-tip: The best part. The extension applies to any free night awards, suite upgrades, or club lounge access awards earned this year.

As with elite status extension, the extension on free nights, suite upgrades, and Club Lounge Access awards is automatic. You don't have to call, tweet, or, if you have one, email your Concierge.

If your Hyatt points were set to expire this year, you get a grace period.

Technically, Hyatt points don't expire but are forfeited if there's no activity on your Hyatt account for 24 months.

Pro-tip : It's easy to generate activity on your Hyatt account. The fastest and cheapest way to create activity on your Hyatt account is by transferring points from your Chase Sapphire Preferred card or Chase Sapphire Reserve card .

Waived Change and Cancellation Fees

Hyatt has waived change and cancellation fees on all existing reservations through June 30, 2020, if you booked on or before April 1, 2020.

To avoid a penalty, you have to change or cancel your reservation at least 24 hours prior to arrival.

Pro-tip: Waived fees also apply to Advance Purchase Rate reservations.

It's a painless and easy process. I had an Advance Purchase Rate booking at the Hyatt Place London Heathrow Airport in March that I had to cancel because we had to fly back to the US earlier than planned. My concierge took care of refunding my charge.

You can change or cancel without penalty all new reservations, including Advance Purchase reservations, booked between April 2, 2020, and June 30, 2020, for any future arrival date when you change or cancel your reservation at least 24 hours prior to arrival.

This does not apply to reservations booked after April 1, 2020 at WOH Destinations Residences and group or special event rate bookings. Here's the complete list of the excluded Destination Residence hotels.

You can make changes or cancel your reservations on the Hyatt website or on the World of Hyatt app.

Pro-tip: Waived fees only apply to reservations booked through Hyatt. If you booked through an online travel agency or travel agent, you have to contact them. This also applies to Hyatt Residence Club booked made outside of Hyatt.

Hyatt is providing free meditation from Headspace through the World of Hyatt app.

Meditations include short meditations for busy schedules, soothing sounds for a restful night's sleep, and more.

Pro-tip: Hyatt is adding the Headspace content in at least 200 Hyatt hotels later this year.

You don't have to worry about requalifying for status or your free nights expiring because World of Hyatt is extending status, free night awards, points, and more!

Whatever Hyatt elite status you had on March 31, 2020, you keep that status through February 28, 2022.

Elite status is automatic, no phone calls, tweets, or emails required. Status extensions will occur before or by April 15, 2020.

Hyatt is also extending the dates on Free Night awards, Suite Upgrades, and Club Lounge Access awards with new expiration dates of 2021 on the 20th of the month. So if your free night expires on May 2, 2020, it's extended to May 20, 2021.

Change and cancelation fees on all reservations including advance purchase rates are waived if you cancel your booking at least 24 hours in advance. This doesn't apply to Destinations Residence hotels, group rates, or special event reservations.

For those of you who haven't generated any Hyatt activity on your account and were in danger of your points expiring, you've been given a grace period.

Hyatt is giving free access to Headspace meditation through the World of Hyatt app. In the coming months, you can access the meditation at least 200 hotels.
