A practical weekend in Chengdu

Friday arrival

You will likely land at one of two airports when you arrive in the capital city of Sichuan Province. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) is approximately 16 kilometers from downtown. If you fly into Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU), be aware that it is located about 51 kilometers from the city center.

Saturday morning

Start your trip at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. You should plan to arrive early for feeding time, which takes place from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM. This is the window when pandas are most active.

Saturday afternoon

Spend your afternoon exploring the city's heritage and street food. You can walk through the Wide and Narrow Alleys to see Qing Dynasty architecture. Afterward, visit Jinli Ancient Street to try a variety of Sichuan snacks.

Sunday activities

Dedicate your final day to the contrast between old and new Chengdu. You can experience local tea culture at People's Park. For a modern perspective on retail and city life, spend some time at Taikoo Li.

Travel logistics

If you are arriving by high-speed bullet train, travel times depend on your departure point. The trip from Chongqing takes about 2 hours [S6, S4]. From Xian, the journey is 4 hours. If you are traveling from either Guilin or Kunming, the train ride takes 6 hours.
