A weekend in Karachi

Arrival and accommodation

You can see the main highlights of the city in two full days if you follow a Friday to Sunday plan. When you land at Jinnah International Airport (KHI), you can take an Uber or Careem to the Pearl Continental Hotel, which costs between £800-1200 PKR and takes about 35 minutes. For your stay, you have several options including the Ambiance Boutique Art Hotel Karachi, Avari Towers Karachi, Bahria Town Karachi 5 Star Hotel, or Beach Luxury Hotel.

Friday evening

Keep your first night simple to get your bearings. After you check in and settle into your hotel, head out for dinner at Espresso Cafe.

Saturday itinerary

Start your day early to avoid the crowds. Your first stop should be the Karachi Port Trust Jetty, located 2.0km from the centre. This is a free attraction where you can watch wooden boats unload their catch, but you should arrive around 6am to see the auction.

Next, visit Frere Hall, a colonial building from 1865 that is free and located 2.5km from the centre. While the Sadequain gallery inside is only open on weekdays from 10am to 1pm, the building itself remains a highlight. Continue your morning at the National Museum of Pakistan, which costs Rs30 for entry and is open from 09:00 to 17:00 (it closes on Mondays).

For more history, visit Quaid's Mausoleum, where entry is free and the site is open daily from 08:00 to 20:00. For your meals today, head to Seafront BBQ for lunch and Cafe Karachi for dinner.

Sunday morning

Start your final morning with brunch at Kaiser Restaurant. Afterward, visit the Mohatta Palace Museum, which is open from 10:00 to 18:00 and closes on Tuesdays. Entry costs Rs30. If you are visiting on the last Sunday of the month, you can take a free guided tour. You can also stop at the museum cafe for karak chai, which costs Rs30.

Local transport

You have several ways to get around the city depending on your budget and time.

If you want to use public transit, the Karachi Rapid Transit (BRT) costs between £50-100 PKR with a travel time of 45 minutes. The Karachi Circular Railway is another option, costing from £30-50 PKR for a 40 minute trip.

For more direct trips, White Cabs and local taxis can take you from the Pearl Continental Hotel to downtown, restaurants, or markets in about 15 minutes for £300-600 PKR.
