TravelMe Editorial·Reviewed by Ryan Thayer

This trip is for the traveler who wants a fast paced but spiritually focused journey across the globe. Over 14 days, you will move through s and ancient cities to find a sense of balance. From the high deserts of the United States to the river banks of India, this itinerary focuses on places that invite reflection and quiet.

Stop 1: Sedona

Day 1

You will start your journey in Sedona, where the landscape is defined by red sandstone cliffs. You should first visit the Visitor Center on Forest Road to purchase Red Rock Passes and speak with a ranger about the best hikes for your energy level. Depending on your mood, you can explore Uptown Sedona to browse the galleries and cafés, or head to West Sedona for a quieter experience with easy trail access. If you prefer the water, the Oak Creek valley to the south is ideal for riverside walks. If you happen to visit in February, you can catch the Sedona International Film Festival or the Jazz Festival.

For your meal, you can visit Canyon Breeze. When it is time to rest, you will stay at Sky Rock Sedona, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel.

Stop 2: Scottsdale

Day 2 Leg from Sedona: ~154 km (flight required)

Next, you will fly to Scottsdale, Arizona. This city is famous for its desert scenery and upscale atmosphere. You should spend time in Old Town, which feels like a small downtown filled with art galleries and boutique shops. If you are looking for nature, North Scottsdale provides easy access to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. For a more luxurious vibe, you can visit Paradise Valley, where you will find golf clubs and high end resorts. When dining in Old Town, you can expect to spend between $20 and $35 per person.

You should eat at Wasted Grain. For your overnight stay, you will be at The Canyon Suites.

Stop 3: Naples

Day 3 Leg from Scottsdale: ~3008 km (flight required)

Your journey then takes you across the ocean to Naples, an ancient Mediterranean port. You will find that the historic centre is a maze of streets featuring a mix of Greek, Roman, Norman, Angevin, Spanish, and French architecture. According to the UNESCO evaluation committee, this is the largest historic centre in Europe. You can walk along the Bay to see the striking view of the volcanic cone of Vesuvius and the Royal Palace of Caser.

You will spend the night at the Inn on 5th.

Stop 4: Jerusalem

Day 4 Leg from Naples: ~10739 km (flight required)

From there, you will fly to Jerusalem, a city where history is visible in every layer. You should walk through the Old City and visit the Armenian Quarter, where you can smell fresh rosemary from the local bakery. For a more energetic experience, head to the Mahane Yehuda market to try a warm sabich or a bowl of creamy hummus topped with pickled eggplant. You can also spend time in the German Colony, where the cafés are known for their shakshuka.

For dinner, you can visit Rimon for Italian food. You will stay at the Jerusalem Tower.

Stop 5: Lalibela

Day 5 Leg from Jerusalem: ~2229 km (flight required)

Your next stop is Lalibela, which feels more like a living monastery than a town. You will want to visit the rock-hewn churches, specifically Bete Giyorgis, Bete Medhane Alem, and the intricate Bete Maryam. These structures are carved directly into the volcanic tuff. You can wander through narrow alleys with white-washed houses and listen to the sound of wooden sandals on ancient stone steps. Keep in mind that the town is at an altitude of about 2,500 m, so the evenings can be cool.

You can eat at Selina Bar and Restaurant or Abay Grocery. You will stay at the Asheten Hotel.

Stop 6: Zanzibar

Days 6 to 8 Leg from Lalibela: ~2024 km (flight required)

You will spend three days in Zanzibar. As you arrive, you will notice the scent of cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom from the nearby spice farms. Spend your time in Stone Town, a maze of coral-block houses and carved wooden doors. You can visit the Sultan's Palace and the House of Wonders before relaxing at a waterfront café. While you are here, you should try a fresh Zanzibar pizza topped with tomato.

For dining, you can visit Seaview Indian Restaurant. Your home for these three nights will be Hotel Marine.

Stop 7: Varanasi

Days 9 to 11 Leg from Zanzibar: ~5884 km (flight required)

Next, you will fly to Varanasi for three days of spiritual exploration. You can walk through the narrow lanes of Bharat Mata Mandir and visit the ghats along the Ganges. You will hear the low hum of temple bells at dawn in Kashi Vishwanath and see wooden boats ferrying pilgrims across the river. The air here often carries the scent of incense smoke.

You should eat at Royal. You will stay at the Taj Ganges Varanasi.

Stop 8: Chiang Mai

Days 12 to 14 Leg from Varanasi: ~1801 km (flight required)

Your final stop is Chiang Mai. You can explore the Old City, which is ringed by moats and crumbling walls. Visit Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang before heading to the Nimmanhaemin area, where you will find indie boutiques and cafés. If you enjoy local food, the night market off Warorot Road is a highlight, specifically for a bowl of khao soi.

For your final meals, you can choose between New Boomerang or Franco Thai for French cuisine. You will stay at The Jersey Royal.

How to Adapt This Trip

If you only have 10 days, you should cut the stops in Naples and Jerusalem. This will reduce the number of long flight legs and allow you to spend more time in the later destinations.

If you have 21 days, you can add more time to Zanzibar to explore the spice farms more slowly, or add extra days to Chiang Mai to spend more time in the Nimmanhaemin neighborhood.
