A Global Journey Through Historic And Cultural Cities
A 14 day flight hop across eight iconic cities spanning four continents.
This trip is designed for the restless traveler who wants to see the world's most influential cultural hubs in a single journey. Over 14 days, you will move through eight cities, shifting from the Mediterranean coast to the Andes mountains. It is a high energy itinerary that blends architectural exploration, street food, and historic walks.
Day 1: Barcelona
You start your journey in Barcelona, a city that blends sea, art, and market life. You'll want to spend your first morning wandering the narrow lanes of El Born. This neighborhood is where medieval walls meet modern boutiques. Afterward, head to the sandy stretch of Barceloneta for a quick dip in the water before the sun sets.
When it comes to food, the city is grounded in simple, honest dishes. You can find a plate of bombas in Poble Sec or enjoy a glass of vermut at a tiny bar in Gràcia for under €5. If you need a caffeine fix, a coffee at a sidewalk café in the Gothic Quarter usually costs about €2.
For your evening meal, head to Central Rambla. When you are ready to rest, check into Hotel Millenni for a luxury stay.
Day 2: Istanbul
Leg: Flight from Barcelona (~2234 km)
Next, you fly to Istanbul. This city is known for its ability to surprise visitors. Start your morning by walking across the Galata Bridge at sunrise. You will see fishermen hauling in the fresh catch while the Golden Horn glitters behind the silhouette of the Süleymaniye Mosque.
Later, spend your afternoon in the narrow streets of Balat. Here, you'll hear the clatter of tram wheels mixing with the scent of simit and strong Turkish coffee coming from family run cafés. For dinner, visit Hamdi to experience the local flavors. You will be staying at Yiğitalp Oteli, a mid range option.
Day 3: Cairo
Leg: Flight from Istanbul (~1236 km)
Your third stop is Cairo. The city is defined by layers of history that you can walk through. In the morning, head to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square. The Tutankhamun exhibit alone is worth the 30 minute taxi ride from downtown, and a ticket costs about 200 EGP.
After the museum, wander down to Islamic Cairo. The narrow lanes of Al Moez Street still echo with the call to prayer from the nearby Al Azhar Mosque. For lunch, stop by Al Horreya Cafe. You will spend the night at Hotel Longchamps.
Day 4: Jaipur
Leg: Flight from Cairo (~4341 km)
Fly east to Jaipur, which feels like a living museum. The old city is famous for its pink washed walls. You can explore the area on foot starting from the bustling lanes of Johri Bazaar. Listen for the clink of brassware and smell the sizzle of fresh jalebi from the stall at Laxmi Misthan Bhandar.
Take a short auto rickshaw ride (about 15 minutes from the airport) to reach the Hawa Mahal. From there, a 10 minute walk takes you to the market of Bapu Bazaar, where you can haggle for block prints. For a meal, visit Anokhi Cafe. Your home for the night is Umaid Bhawan.
Day 5: Kyoto
Leg: Flight from Jaipur (~5706 km)
Your fifth stop is Kyoto. The streets of Gion still echo with the soft click of wooden geta, and you can pass tea houses that have served matcha for centuries. If you enjoy architecture, head to Higashiyama to see narrow lanes lined with wooden machiya townhouses. The area around Kiyomizu dera offers views of the city rooftops and a chance to sample yudofu at a tiny shop behind a shrine.
You should also visit the bamboo grove in Arashiyama. For dining, try Daikichi for Japanese cuisine. You will stay at the ultra luxury Hotel Granvia Kyoto in 下京区.
Days 6 to 8: Charleston
Leg: Flight from Kyoto (~11608 km)
You now cross the ocean to Charleston, South Carolina. This town feels like a well preserved 19th century settlement. The streets are lined with pastel houses and Spanish moss hangs from live oaks.
Spend your first day on the historic peninsula. It is easy to walk from the Battery to Rainbow Row. On your second day, explore the French Quarter near King Street, where you will find boutique shops and art galleries. Spend your final day in the quieter area of South of Broad. For a quick and tasty meal, visit East Bay Deli for a sandwich. You will be staying at Kings Courtyard Inn.
Days 9 to 11: Cartagena
Leg: Flight from Charleston (~2531 km)
Fly to Cartagena. The walled Old Town is a highlight, especially the cobblestone streets of Getsemaní and the plazas around Plaza Santo Domingo. These areas buzz with colorful murals, street side cafés, and live cumbia bands.
You can spend your time wandering through the colonial forts, such as Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, which is a short hike up the hill. For dining, visit La Estacion. Your accommodation is Casa CHAG SECTOR LOS LAGOS EL POZON.
Days 12 to 14: Cusco
Leg: Flight from Cartagena (~2688 km)
Your final stop is Cusco, where Inca stonework exists beneath colonial facades. You will find the real pulse of the city in Barrio de San Blas. Wander its steep, cobbled lanes and stop at Pukara café, where the owner serves chicha in clay cups.
While many tourists stay near Plaza de Armas, you should head to El Rincón de los Cusqueños for a more authentic experience. For a Peruvian meal, visit Cevicheria Las Machitas. You will stay at Hospedaje El Negrito.

How to adapt this trip
If you only have 10 days, you will need to cut some of the single day stops. We suggest removing Jaipur and Kyoto to reduce the total flight time and travel fatigue.
If you have 21 days, you can slow down the first half of the trip. Add two extra nights to Barcelona, Istanbul, and Cairo. This allows you to explore the neighborhoods of Balat or the lanes of El Born without rushing to the airport.
